KC Hockey Overview

Rep Tryouts All players must be registered (at
the KC Office or Online) with fees paid before
attending camps. All camps are held at the KC Arena.
1. COACH - Coaches are required to respect the KC Organizations tryout rules, player eligibility and cut-down dates. 2. PLAYERS - Players will pay a tryout fee to cover ice costs. 3. EVALUATION - An independent evaluator for AA and Peewee players, to assist the KC Organization and the Coaches. 4. COACHES - Coaches will select their players with the assistance of the evaluation report. Then the Coach must be prepared to use that player. 5. DRAFT - Coaches shall not depend on City Draft Players in finalizing their teams. The Date scheduled on the tryout schedule is the date the team shall be finalized. It is also the date no player shall be placed in the Draft and no player will be accepted. 6. PLAYERS - Players starting at the beginning of the tryouts will receive a minimum of four tryout sessions. EXCEPTIONS: 1) Player in City Draft - The number of games depends on draft rules. 2) Late Starts - due to injury, sick or other causes, player will receive three evaluated tryout sessions. Tryout Fee will be pro-rated. 3) Evaluation Committee consisting of three (3) people shall hear challenges on placement from players and parents. 7. KEEPING SPOTS OPEN -
This will only apply to players who would rank within the top six of the
selected team. Keeping a spot open because of illness or injury during
the summer or tryouts. A doctors certificate would be required as to
when the player would be able to play, the Coach must bring this forward
to the KC Directors. The duration of keeping the spot open will be
decided by the KC Organization. Board Approved Policy (2001)
Training and team selection will be completed through a Four-Round Process. At the end of each season a start date will be set for the process to begin the following season. A Newsletter informing all eligible players of the training and selection camp dates and times will be sent out ONLY by the Hockey Operations President. Players will be asked to pay a fee to attend selection camp. All money collected must be handed in to the KC Hockey Office along with a record of who paid (ie: players name). This money will be used to pay for the ice rental. WEEK ONE REGISTRATION / CONDITIONING CAMP All PLAYERS will be required to complete an EMHA Registration Form. Registration fees and all pertinent information fill be collected at this time. No formal evaluation will occur this week. The time will be used to ensure that all players have a chance to be on the ice prior to "Tryouts". The time will also be used to familiarize both players and coaches with specific selection camp drills. SELECTION CAMP BEGINS All players will compete this week for selection into three levels (forming the AAA, AA groups). All Coaches are expected to work together to ensure fair and effective evaluation of the talent level divisions. The AAA coaches will have final say on the first 30 players, the AA coaches on the next 30 players. A minimum of four on ice sessions are guaranteed for all players. SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS : Any player coming in to the process after week two (AAA/AA) draft choices excluded) will normally be placed first with the AAA Bantams and moved down through the levels along the normal process. The Bantam AAA Squires will be allowed to card one under age player. The Bantam AA's will not be allowed to card under age players.

A personal contact must be made between Coaches and players. 3. Players will be asked to pay a fee to attend selection camp. All money collected must be handed into the KC Hockey Office along with a record of who paid the fees (ie: players name). This money will be used to pay the ice rental at the KC Sports Complex only. CONDITIONING CAMP / REGISTRATION No formal evaluation will occur this week. The time will be used to ensure that players have a chance to be on the ice prior to "try-outs". The time will also be used to familiarize both players and coaches with specific selection camp drills. Registration will also occur during this week. All players will be required to complete an EMHA Player Registration Form. Registration fees and all pertinent information will be collected at this time. 4. All Coaches are expected to work together to ensure a fair and effective evaluation of the talent level divisions. The "AAA" (Squires) Coaches will have final say on the first 25 players. 5. It is the firm belief of this association that the development of players within the K of C Hockey System should be a high priority. As such some restrictions may be put in place to limit the number of draft choices beyond the governing policies of the EMHA. SHAMROCKS & VOYAGEURS draft 20 top players and 3 goalies each using the Coaches selection and the Evaluation Committee. NOTE: The Evaluation Committee will oversee the Draft. ROUND THREE All teams must be formed to final roster by the end of Round Four. The date scheduled on the tryout list is when the team shall be finalized. It is also the date no player shall be placed in the Draft and no player will be accepted. 6. Players may be moved from team to team during the selection process at the discretion of the Directors and Coaches. 7. During each Round the players must have a minimum of 4 tryouts on the ice. 8. When a player is cut they must be told of their options and must be cut with dignity and respect. 9. Evaluation Committee The Evaluation Committee consisting of three (3) people will hear any concerns or challenges by players and parents. TRAINING and SELECTION CAMP PROCESS ATOM 1 & PEEWEE 1
Players trying for the above teams will be selected from the Kof C Program city wide. The intention is to have Atom and Peewee players tryout and compete in the top tier. 1. Training and team selection will be completed through a Two-Round Process. 2. This is an "open try-out" process and all players are welcome. 3. Final team roster must be made up of players who attended the Tryout Camp. Exception to this will only be in accordance with the Tryout Policy or approval from the Operations President. Players will be asked to pay a fee to attend selection camp. All money collected must be handed into the KC Office along with a record of who paid the fees. (ie: players name) This money will be used to pay the ice rental at the KC Twin Arenas only. 4. Round One of Selection Camp Begins a) Each player will be issued a colored and numbered pinnie to wear during the selection process. If a player's color and/or number is changed then the Category Director will be advised. b) All players who are interested in playing Atom 1 or Peewee 1 will have an opportunity to tryout for these teams. Each player will be given a minimum of four (4) on ice tryout sessions. c) The objective of this evaluation is to select the group of players who will form citywide teams. An independent group, retained by the KC Hockey Club, is conducting player evaluations. All players will receive a minimum of 4 skates before being released to their home organization. d) At the end of Round One four (4) try-out sessions a list of fifty (50) skaters (forwards and defense) plus eight (8) goalies will be created by the Coaches and Operations President (or his designate) in consultation with the evaluators (the Evaluation List) these players will proceed to Round Two. All other skaters and goalies will be asked to report to their respective areas. ATOM 1 (North Side) 2

e) Evaluation Committee will oversee the draft and hear any concerns or challenges by dissatisfied players or parents on evaluations. ROUND TWO OF SELECTION CAMP BEGINS a) Again, a minimum of four (4) on ice tryout sessions will occur. At this time the evaluation will proceed. b) At the end of this round the Coaches will draft fifteen (15) skaters (forwards/defense) and two (2) goalies from the Evaluation List. NOTE: The evaluation committee will oversee the draft. c) When a player is cut they must be told of their options and must be cut with dignity and respect . 5. Players may be moved from team to team during the selection process at the discretion of the Coaches in consultation with the Category Director. 6. During each Tryout Round the players must have a minimum of four tryout sessions on the ice. 7. Evaluation Committee The evaluation committee consists of three (3) people who will hear any concerns or challenges by players or parents.
