HOCKEY FAQ

  1. How does KC fit with the Edmonton Minor Hockey Association?

  2. How are teams tierd?
TIERING occurs after all of the teams have been made. Tiering is the process EMHA and FEDERATION HOCKEY COUNCIL uses to make the schedules for the season. Tiering occurs three times in a hockey season, the first round occurs prior to any actual games being played, this one is the toughest because it is really just a best guess on where we think teams should play.  The second round occurs near the end of the first schedule and has already been completed, teams are placed based on the record of goal differential in the first round.  The third round of tiering occurs in early January just prior to Minor Hockey Week, again this is based on goal differential and this round will determine the final schedule for the year leading to the playoffs. At the start of the season EMHA determines how many teams each Zone must put in Tier 1 at the Novice, Atom and Peewee levels even if we do not think we should have a team at that level, for the first round we must do so.

  3. MOBILITY: for ATOM & PEEWEE players. Where a player plays their last year as Novice that is the organization they are committed to play Atom and Peewee Categories. The only exception is if the family moves residence to another zone then they can play for the new zone or Knights of Columbus Hockey.

  4. AFFILIATION: the purpose of affiliating a player is to allow a team that is short players due to illness, absence, or suspension to bring a player onto the team for a game to help ensure you remain competitive.  Only players from a team in a lower tier are allowed to be affiliated.  A team is not allowed to use a player from the same tier or higher for affiliation purposes.  Any player on the affiliation list may be used only five times past January 10th.
To use a player on the list, the coach must call the affiliated player and parents to ask if they are interested in affiliating for a game/s.
Once a player is signed as an affiliate to a team they cannot change and affiliate to a different team.

  5. COACHES/OFFICIALS: only five officials are allowed on the bench at one time, you can name more officials to your team but only five can be on the bench during a game.

  6. MOVING DURING SEASON: if you register in June and move to another zone before December 1st then you have the choice of continuing to play with your team or change to a new team in the new zone if there is room on a team. If you move after December 1 st then you continue to play with the team you are registered on but you must register on a team in the new zone the next season.

  7. PRACTISING WITH A TEAM YOU'RE NOT REGISTERED: no players (brothers, coaches sons etc.) are allowed to practice with a team they are not registered with.

  8. SPECIAL EVENTS: such as Moms playing a game against a team, then a Special Events Sanction Permit must be obtained from EMHA.
