Coaching Philosophy

During this off-season I have had the opportunity to speak with a few of the graduating bantam AAA/AA players, encouraging them to work hard this summer in preparation for the 09/10 Minor Midget tryouts.  I have challenged them to set their sights beyond making the team, but to contribute to the success of the team.  As last season I witnessed far too many athletes who were content with ‘making the team’.  Making a team is only the first step, or short-term goal, in the process of achieving a greater goal(s).  Though it is important to set goals, it is equally as important to have a plan in place to achieve each goal.

It is my expectation that each athlete desiring to be a member of the KC Centennials hockey team, this season, will come prepared to contribute to the success of the team.  Each athlete must be prepared physically and mentally.  They must come with a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn.  As well, each athlete must have a high of respectful for themselves, the coaches, their teammates, the opposing team and the officials.

Success this season will be affected by the off-season preparation of both the coaches and players.  Success will come as the team works together, as one unit, to accomplish the same purpose(s).  This requires each athlete to work hard at learning and playing their position within the team system, so as, to contribute to the execution and success of that system.  Finally, success will be affected by each athlete’s willingness to trust and follow the leadership of the coaches.
