Coach Profile - Brad McFadden

Hello my name is Brad McFadden and I will be coaching the Atom Icemen this upcoming season.  It‘s no secret that skill development occurs from good structured practices which will be one of my most important functions as a coach.    I keep going back to something I heard at a coaches meeting last year which is so true; “when a player gets to the Bantam level and can’t perform certain skills up to the expected standard….who’s fault is it “ ? The answers is…..its not the players fault, it falls back on the coaches that player had for two years of Atom and another two years of Pee Wee !

My coaching staff and I will not be jumping all over a player when they make a mistake, actually it will be quite the opposite !  Making a mistake is natural and you could say is part of the learning curve and applies to all aspects of life not just the sport of hockey.  Have you ever seen a mistake free NHL game ?  The best players in the world make mistakes and it is my intention for the Icemen players to learn from the mistakes that they will make.  Practices will be structured in a way that the players will be taught skills in game related drills.  I have no intention of looking up fancy drills from the internet or a book that have no specific purpose but wow do they ever look good !

I am looking forward to an exciting, challenging year of providing a positive coaching/teaching atmosphere. There is nothing better for a coach than to see their young players develop both on and off the ice. It is my goal, that when the season is over that each and every player can say that they have improved and had fun doing it !  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
