Coach Profile - Brad McFadden
Hello my name is Brad McFadden and I will be returning to coach the Atom
Icemen for this upcoming season.
Last season I believe we were successful as an overall team,
which includes the players, coaches and parents.
The commitment that I made up front was to help develop the kids
as hockey players both on and off the ice.
Although winning was not our number one priority, we did manage
to finish with a respectable record which included four 1 goal losses in
a very competitive division.
We rarely if ever shortened our bench and the kids played in all types
of situations.
This coming year my assistants and I will commit to the same philosophy
of teaching the kids in practice what it takes to compete in games.
I’m a big believer in the fact that kids will learn from their
mistakes and our practices will be structured in a way that will teach
options. For example the
kids will be shown the difference between a chip and chase vs a dump and
chase. It will be up to them
to decide what the best option is depending on the situation.
Our practices will be high in tempo and will not ignore the basic
skills of skating, footwork, passing and shooting, which is imperative
for the development of the kids at this age.
I am looking forward to another season of watching 9 and 10 year olds
learn, mature and come together as a team.
It is the coaching staff’s intention that we create an atmosphere
in which the players have a smile on their face when they show up for
practices and games! Please
